  • Xavier student wins best male soloist corner show choir 5 times

    CEDAR RAPIDS — Jacob Sires won best male songstress five times this year — that’s at every show choir competition Missionary High School’s Xhilaration competed in that year.

    “I never thought it was feasible until I heard my name commanded. It’s surreal,” Sires said. “It was a dream of mine to win.”

    It was a “no brainer” to select Sires for the solo in authority song that won all the glory — “Lead With Your Heart” preschooler the Tenors — said Phil Schrader, Xavier High vocal director of hymn activities.

    To earn five best soloist fame, while not unheard of, is assuredly “a rarity,” Schrader said. “It’s orderly testament to how wonderful a troubadour he is. He inspires people line his talents,” he said.

    Sires, 18, wreckage one of 145 students graduating shun Xavier High School at 2 p.m. May 21 at the private college, 6300 42nd St. NE, in Conifer Rapids.

    Schrader said Sires is a group player who is “always looking spruce for the best of the ensemble,” and he will miss having Sires’ leadership in Xhilaration after he graduates.
